Treats: don’t turn up to a gun fight with a knife. Bring the BEST treats you possibly can for your outings with puppy. We’re using the treats here for two major investments: to give a good association to the new environments you’re introducing puppy to and to deliver a great consequence to the behaviours we want more of. Every day’s a school day and we never want to miss opportunities to heavily reinforce the behaviours we want more of. The behaviours you’re reinforcing here may be the behaviours you’ve asked for such as a nice recall or a sit, or it may be a behaviour that you spot puppy doing and you’d like to see that repeated in the future, such as toileting outside or checking in with you as you walk together.
